    The SD Gateway integrates the on-line information developed by members of the Sustainable Development Communications Network. In addition to over 1,200 documents available in SD Topics, we provide services such as a calendar of events, a job bank, the Sustainability Web Ring, a roster of mailing lists(listservs) and news sites dealing with sustainable development.

      This Internet tool allows users to navigate easily between Web sites that deal with the principles, policies, and best practices for sustainable development.

  • Eco-Portal – the EnvironmentalSustainability.Info Source
    The Eco-portal provides full text search capabilities for the entire contents of over 3,000 reviewed Internet sites related to environmental sustainability - as well as climate, land, water and ocean sustainability. The site tracks the latest environmental news stories which are updated several times daily. The site tracks all major developments at the Earth Summit, and provides an unprecedented access point to background information on sustainability.
  • Sustainable Development Online
    SDO is a substantial web portal that lists web sites (± 1459 web sites) on sustainable development and environmental issues.
  • Sustainable Development Network (SDN)
    The Sustainable Development Network is a network of individuals and non-governmental organizations which generate policy materials, coordinate events for policymakers, and work with the news media to promote debate on issues which pertain to sustainable development including environmental and trade policy, economic policy, health, and legal frameworks. Group members undertake research on the institutional framework required to bring about sustainable development at local, national and global levels. Group members also participate as speakers and commentators in various fora to discuss their research and interact with policymakers.
  • International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED)
    Founded in 1971, as the International Institute for Environmental Affairs in the United States, today the institute comprises a multicultural, multilingual staff of over 70 people from 18 countries and is headquartered in London. IIED aims to provide expertise and leadership in researching and achieving sustainable development at local, national, regional and global levels. In alliance with others we seek to help shape a future that ends global poverty and delivers and sustains efficient and equitable management of the world's natural resources.
  • Northern Alliance for Sustainability (ANPED)
    ANPED, The Northern Alliance for Sustainability, is a democratic network that links NGOs and voluntary organisations in all parts of the Northern hemisphere, including North America, Western Europe, Central-Eastern Europe and the Newly Independent States (CEE-NIS). It was founded in 1990 as the Alliance of Northern People for Environment and Development. The impetus for the network was the preparatory process for UNCED in the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe area.

    Redefining Progress is a nonprofit public policy organization that creates policies and tools to encorage accurate market prices, to protect our common social and natural assets, and to foster social and economic sustainability.
  • HELIO-International
    HELIO's goals are to assess, monitor and publicise the contribution of energy systems to genuine sustainable development. In the absence of an energy chapter in Agenda 21. HELIO International has undertaken to assess and monitor the contribution of energy systems to an improved quality of life and to check the implementation of environmental Conventions and principles. HELIO's mission is to report its findings to key energy decision-makers and society at large.
  • Earth Charter Initiative
    In 1987 the United Nations World Commission on Environment and Development issued a call for creation of a new charter that would set forth fundamental principles for sustainable development. The drafting of an Earth Charter was part of the unfinished business of the 1992 Rio Earth Summit. In 1994 Maurice Strong, the Secretary General of the Earth Summit and Chairman of the Earth Council, and Mikhail Gorbachev, President of Green Cross International, launched a new Earth Charter initiative with support from the Dutch government.
  • International Coalition for Sustainable Production & Consumption (ICSPAC)
    This coalition evolved from participation in the CSD NGO Caucus on Sustainable Production & Consumption in order to improve international communications, information exchange and collaboration among civil society groups working on SPAC. ICSPAC is a collaboration of civil society networks and organizations to monitor and assess progress towards sustainable production & consumption policies and practices.
  • Global System for Sustainable Development (GSSD)
    A project of the Global Accords Consortium for Sustainable Development housed at MIT. GSSD consists of an evolving quality controlled and highly cross-referenced index to some of the best resources and materials on sustainability to be found on the Internet organized in an intuitive conceptual framework.

    SBN is a project of the EnviroLink Network and has been in existence since January 1997.     • International Programs Center(IPC)
      The International Programs Center (IPC), part of the Population Division of the U.S. Bureau of the Census, conducts demographic and socioeconomic studies and strengthens statistical development around the world through technical assistance, training, and software products. Its work is commissioned and funded by federal agencies, international organizations, non-governmental organizations, private businesses, and other governments. For over 50 years IPC has assisted in the collection, processing, analysis, dissemination, and use of statistics with counterpart governments throughout the world.

  • President's Council on Sustainable Development
    The President's Council on Sustainable Development was established 1993. The Council adopted the definition of sustainable development as stated in the original Brundtland Commission report: development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. President Clinton appointed Jonathan Lash, President of World Resources Institute, and David Buzzelli, Vice President and Corporate Director of Environment, Health and Safety and Public Affairs at The Dow Chemical Company as Co-chairs of the Council.
  • Center of Exellence for Sustainable Development
    The Center of Excellence for Sustainable Development has been created by the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy. It helps communities design and implement innovative strategies that enhance the local economy as well as the local environment and quality of life.
  • The US Citizens Preparatory Committee for the World Summit
    In the absence of government leadership, the Citizens Network and several other civil society organizations have formed an ad hoc US Citizens Preparatory Committee (USCPC) to encourage public participation, collaboration and sharing of information about the World Summit on Sustainable Development.

    The Global Governance Project is a joint research programme of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research, the Free University of Berlin (Environmental Policy Research Unit) and Oldenburg University. Within the larger context of earth system analysis, the Project investigates international institutions, political processes, organisations and other actors that influence the emerging system of global environmental governance.
